Assistant Teaching Professor, Games and Esports – School of Arts, Media and Engineering

The School of Arts, Media, and Engineering at Arizona State University seeks a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor in Games and Esports. The position begins with the Fall 2023 semester. The successful candidate will teach classes in games and esports and maintain an expected teaching load of four classes per semester, which may include online classes. Faculty can expect to also advise student projects, engage with departmental events, and support recruitment and retention initiatives. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-track position renewable on an academic year basis contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the university. Candidate must reside in Arizona or be willing to relocate.

The primary responsibilities for this position will be in the programs of the School of Arts, Media, and Engineering, a cross-disciplinary unit that advances technofluency – its development, application, and implication – as its mission. The School houses artists, designers, engineers, and humanities scholars to leverage emerging technologies for public impact. The successful candidate will be expected to teach and mentor students, participate in professional and university service, and engage stakeholders in the university and the community. The successful candidate will teach classes in games and esports. The expected load is four classes per semester and may include in person, online, or hybrid teaching environments. This is an opportunity to influence a growing and recent area of emphasis in the school curriculum.

Required qualifications:

  1. Masters or doctorate in Game Design, Game development, Esports management, or related areas.
  2. Evidence of excellence in teaching
  3. Experience in the game and esports industry.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Desired qualifications:

  1. Two or more years of full-time teaching experience in higher education
  2. Experience teaching in-person and in digital environments (asynchronously and/or synchronously)
  3. Experience working in a collaborative environment and across disciplines
  4. Demonstrated success meeting the needs of underrepresented students and/or diverse communities
  5. Ability to mentor graduate students or advanced undergraduates in projects.
